I could sit here and complain how our mom liked Zuko more than me, but I don't really care. I don't have sob stories like all of you. Prince Zuko: "I guess you wouldn't understand, would you, Azula? Because you're just *so* perfect."Īzula: "Well, yes, I guess you're right. No wonder she was literally broken and the end of the series. Yeap, poor Zuko that always had the only thing Azula never had and desperately needed (as shown perfectly in the mirror scene) - that those people close to her are truly cared for her. That's quite A LOT even for an adult person, and she is in her early teens only! But despite all of that most viewers be like - Azula is just evil, let's talk about our poor Zuko. Especially considering that, unlike her brother, she had literally NOT A SINGLE PERSON AROUND to care for her: she constantly needs to work really hard on herself to remain perfect to gain approvement from her father (while Zuko got their mother's love regardless of what he do, but she didn't show the same affection to Azula), her uncle sees her as a monster (all while trying to redeem Zuko despite he had done a lot of awful things too, and somehow not even considering to help his sister), her friends feared her (so Zuko had trusting connection with Mai, while she didn't). It'so easy to forgot that Azula is just FOURTEEN, and she already have this abusive family, this repressed inner struggle, this responsibility as possible future heir of the throne, and a lot of problems with mental health, and she's still makes everything to be nothing less than perfect, because "almost isn't good enough", and she succeeds. Well, now I am in a long period of rethinking my old favorite films, books, etc, and I finally realised that Zuko was just lucky, and the true tragic figure of all series is definitely Azula.Īzula: "You mean it's not obvious yet? I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child!" "And since you can't see, I should tell you I'm rolling my eyes." When I watched the series as a teenager, of course I preferred her weak, oh, sorry, confused poor brother Zuko with a golden heart, though I thought Azula is a cool villainess (so she was my forth favorite, after Toph, Zuko and Korra) and already felt sorry for her in the end. My tribute to awesome Fire Nation princess Azula from "Avatar: The Last Airbender", the most complex female antagonist of all time. Long Feng: "You've beaten me at my own game."Īzula: "Don't flatter yourself. Spider-Man/Miles Morales (never read in a comic book version) Deadpool (never read a comic book version)Ħ0.
